Morato Group and Banco Alimentare against food poverty
At a geopolitically and economically sensitive time, we strengthen our collaboration with the Banco Alimentare Foundation to wish everyone a Merry Christmas
Food insecurity and malnutrition in Italy are growing problems that affect the well-being of the population. Organisations such as Fondazione Banco Alimentare Onlus (FBAO) play a crucial role in providing food assistance to those in economic need.
In 2022, the Banco Alimentare distributed over 110,000 tonnes of food, some of which was saved from waste and some of which was obtained through national and European food aid programmes for free distribution to the needy. In order to make this ‘chain of solidarity’ more and more efficient, it is necessary to continue working on several fronts, building stronger relationships with actors in the food supply chain and with institutions.
There are several initiatives that we have activated and carried out over the years with FBAO to combat food waste and promote sustainability: we actively contribute to the fight against food waste, with financial donations and by offering surplus or near-expiry food for distribution to people in need. A high social impact operation supporting local communities, which at the same time helps to reduce food waste
On the occasion of Christmas 2023, the company has decided to strengthen its commitment through a generous financial donation that will enable FBAO to recover food equal to 100,000 meals for people in need.
The Group has also decided to join the We Save & Care initiative, the community of Banco Alimentare, thus demonstrating an ongoing commitment to support the organisation in its mission to combat food waste and poverty.
Joining the We Save & Care initiative entails sharing and adhering to a 7-point programme that can be shared and implemented by people, organisations and companies joining together to make the world a better place:
- Value food. Food is a gift that gives people dignity. Take responsible and conscious actions;
- Look around. Recognising the need is the first step to change things;
- Be proactive. Your actions, even the smallest, can contribute to making the world a better place.
- Donate food. Share it with those who need it most or support those who can;
- Fight waste. Don’t throw away food that is still good, it is a resource and some people don’t have any;
- Network. It is through collaboration that the greatest enterprises are born;
- Become an ambassador. Involve those around you, together we will make a difference.
